Meet the Team 2024

Our Team of Passionate People

It might surprise you to know that Nimmo Bay has over 80 onsite team members. They work on a rotational basis and aren’t all there at once, but this great team allows Nimmo to create a luxury, high-touch environment. The masterful experiences we are able to craft are all thanks to the care and skills that our team bring to the resort. They take great pride in bringing the highest quality hospitality to your stay and anticipating your needs before you even know them yourself.

We thought it would be fun to introduce you to some of the faces that are around the resort this 2024 season. So, let’s meet the team and learn a little bit more about each person and the unique personality, experiences, and talents they bring to the dock.

The Team

Tara Alhena Vincent, Housekeeping

Where do you call home?

I was born and raised in Vancouver and then spent most of my adult life in Manitoba but when I’m asked about where home is, it’s wherever my bus is parked. My partner and I have been doing the van/bus life since 2020, travelling during the off seasons between lodges and visiting places around British Columbia.

What’s your go-to comfort food?

My go to comfort food is ramen on a rainy day.

Do you have a hidden talent or surprising skill?

One hidden talent would be that I make dried floral resin jewelry and beaded jewelry on the side whenever I have free time.

Alex Morrow, Guide Team

Where do you call home?

I was born in Victoria, and have been living in Tofino, B.C. since 2007.

What three famous people (dead or alive) would you invite to dinner?

It would have to be Ernest Shackleton, for his adventurous spirit, Mahatma Gandhi, for leadership, and Bob Dylan for his creativity. These are all influential people who I respect.

What piece of advice would you share with your younger self?

Get a nice guitar, take good care of it and play it for life.

Rob Boland, Kitchen Team

Where do you call home?

I was born and raised in Dublin, Ireland!

What’s your go-to comfort food?

Probably a bowl of pho, evoking memories of wandering around the streets of Hanoi in search of amazing food experiences.

Do you have a hidden talent or surprising skill?

Yes, I’m a hobbyist woodworker!

Ma. Gerly Faye Cantoneros, Wellness Team

Where do you call home?

Right now I call Campbell River my home!

Most adventurous thing you’ve ever done and what you learned?

The most adventurous thing I’ve done is explore Greece on my own with just a little backpack! I learned that going on solo adventures is absolutely freeing and empowering (and that I could actually survive without a full suitcase lol).

How do I recharge?

When I’m at work, after a full day or engaging with guests and colleagues, I recharge by simply hanging out in my room and enjoying some peace and quiet.

Damien Jannet, Guide Team

Where do you call home?

Damien here. I was born and raised in France before moving to the West Coast of British Columbia in 2015 for a quick linguistic trip that should have been “max six months”. Eight years later, I am still here. I fell in love with the place and its inhabitants.

What’s your go-to comfort food?

It is hard to choose a go-to food without associating it with an ambiance! As fall is my favourite season, I will choose roasted chicken and (freshly harvested) chanterelle mushroom cream sauce on rainy and cold November day!

Do you have a hidden talent or surprising skill?

Hidden hobby?! I love language and words and their ability to impact our perception.

Daryl Simpson, Maintenance Team

Where do you call home?

Campbell River, B.C. is where I was born and raised. These days I still live in Willow Point where I grew up!

What three famous people (dead or alive) would you invite to dinner?

I would love to invite Terry Fox, Robin Williams and Tom Petty to dinner. I think the conversations would be interesting and I find these people each to have a unique and fascinating life story.

What piece of advice would you share with your younger self?

Younger self, please buy a modest piece of land on Hornby Island and build a small home.  Then, travel as often as possible, alone or with company.

Amanda Fowles, Kitchen Team

Where do you call home?

Home for me is sechelt / shíshálh territory.

What’s your go-to comfort food?

My go to comfort food is Laksa soup. For me, it evokes memories of traveling to Malaysia and indulging in noodle soups anytime of the day.

Do you have a hidden talent or surprising skill?

A hidden talent I have would be ceramics and wheel throwing. I spent the majority of my time this past winter on the wheel with my hands covered in clay.

What is your favourite travel memory?

One of my favorite travel memories is going to Mongolia and renting a small 4×4 jeep to traverse the country. I was crossing frozen creeks and driving on dirt roads, meeting nomadic families in seemingly the middle of nowhere. They would always open their doors to us and offer a ger (yurt) to sleep in. They would come in multiple times through the night to make sure the fire was going and we were warm. I found that kind hospitality very heartwarming and beautiful.

Sage Grigg, Guide Team

Where do you call home?

I’m originally from T’Sou-ke territory (Sooke) and am currently living on Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ territory (Ucluelet).

What 3 items would you bring to a deserted island?

I’d be totally okay hanging out for a little bit so I’d prioritize bringing some comfort amenities. A full tang stainless steel knife with partial serration, and a lens loupe (essentially a small folding magnifying glass, to start fires and keep myself entertained. Finally, a “Rite in the Rain” blank page book for sketching/notes (pencil attached of course).

Do you have a hidden talent or surprising skill?

Hmm a surprising skill? My seagull call. It’s not that good, it’s just surprising.

Creedance, Guest Experience Coordinator

Where do you call home?

Right now, home is in the gorgeous North Vancouver Island! Port McNeill to be more specific!

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

If I could have any superpower, I think I would like to have super speed! Our team is so amazing and genuinely why I love my job. So being able to get to all the places on the dock as quickly as possible, to be able to help as many of them as I could during the day, would feel wonderful! Time and time again we hear about how out of all the amazing things Nimmo has to offer, our team are the cherry on top. I 100% agree that if the team is happy the guests are happy and I’m ecstatic!

How do you recharge?

I like to recharge with a book, a cocktail, and some fresh water flowing by! A large portion of my time is spent next to the Nimpkish River, with a big ole fantasy book in hand and a cold beverage to sip on. Nothing makes me feel more at home.

What three famous people (dead or alive) would you invite to dinner?

Oh gosh…ummm I’d love to invite Robin Williams, Stephen King, and Jon Favreau!

Robin Williams was such a staple of my childhood; he immediately makes me happy and calm and he’s so smart and funny and I LOVE to laugh. Stephen King has such an incredible imagination that I would love to pick his brain. He is one of my favourite authors and I really think his perspective on the world would be so unique and beautiful. Jon Favreau is just such a rad dude. I love his acting and directing, one of my favourite movies is Chef and I’m a big nerd and he’s a big nerd so yeah! No brainer! I also think all three of these people would complement each other very well and have great conversations!

My top bucket list experience is for sure to go scuba diving with whale sharks in the Galapagos.

Hayley van Wieren, Reservations

Where do you call home?

I am situated on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) nations.

If you could teleport to any place in the world right now, where would you go?

I would go back to Italy in a heartbeat and would love to experience Japan.

What’s your favourite outdoor activity?

Anything that involves being in the sun! I love riding my bike, picnics, walking with my dog, spending time at the beach and in the garden. I hide inside when the cooler weather sets in.

What 3 items would you bring to a deserted island?
  • I suppose I should have some sort of knife for practical reasons.
  • My dog!
  • My knitting supplies…. and fingers crossed there’s a coconut tree or two on this island…

Laterra Lawson, Guide Team

Where do you call home?

Tofino, B.C. is where I call home.

Most adventurous thing you’ve ever done and what you learned?

One of the most adventurous things I’ve done was summit Big Interior Glacier, on Vancouver Island. I was 19 and was with a group camping and practicing our crevasse rescue and snow travel. I’m pretty good with heights when hiking but climbing up this snow ridge with a drop off on either side was one of the most intimidating experiences I’ve ever had. We made it to the summit with nervous smiles, but I was so proud of myself for pushing through the challenge and enjoying that final moment with such beautiful views.
