September:
Calling all Anglers and Bear Viewers
As summer fades into fall, September brings another big shift to the Great Bear Rainforest. The salmon start to return to the streams and the grizzly bears gather on the river shores. Days grow shorter and the mornings cooler. You can feel the transformation from one season of life to another.
The first part of September is much like August. An abundance of marine wildlife is on display and the days can be warm and sunny. Later in September, the whales make their grand departure for warmer waters. The humpbacks swim south and the Resident killer whales head to the open ocean now that the salmon have migrated to fresh waters.
Halfway through September, the focus at Nimmo Bay shifts away from the ocean, to the rivers. The bears dedicate themselves to fattening up for their winter sleep by feasting on salmon. Simultaneously, the salmon embark on their final journey up-stream to spawn and die, nurturing the forests, animals, and river systems. For anglers, this time of year is like the Superbowl of salmon fishing. At Nimmo Bay, we offer helicopter access catch and release fly fishing in the most pristine river systems of the Great Bear Rainforest. For the experienced fly-fisher, this is the fishing odyssey of a lifetime.
September at Nimmo Bay typically fills up the fastest of any season. Our returning guests secure their space years in advance knowing that this month is in high demand for it’s beauty, abundance, and charm.

It offers guests a final opportunity to immerse themselves in the tranquility of nature before winter sets in. For the first week or two in October we still see bears and salmon in our region. But what our guests like most about the fall is the truly wild feeling of the forest, ocean, and sky. Expect more rain and wind and fewer people outside of the resort. Canada is beginning to hibernate. While spa treatments offer a chance to unwind and rejuvenate amidst the pristine wilderness. Kayaking, boating, and hiking excursions invite our guests to embrace the elements and soak in the brilliance of the fall.
Nimmo Bay offers a truly magical experience throughout each season. Every month presents unique opportunities for exploration and adventure.
