Our Wild Month: Why Visit in October?

It’s time to start planning a fall escape to the pristine, breathtaking wilderness of the Great Bear Rainforest…

At Nimmo Bay, October is our ‘Wild Month’ with an amazing diversity of wildlife, activities and offerings. Leave your bustling life behind and get a much-needed dose of wilderness exposure. Whether you are looking for wildlife viewing, helicopter adventures, or a wellness-themed rainforest retreat, experience the natural beauty of BC with a customized itinerary this fall.

Whales and Bears and Eagles, Oh My

The fall can be a prime time for viewing the abundance of wildlife that call this region home. Behind the resort you will discover the largest intact coastal temperate rainforest in the world, while in front, the fjords of British Columbia’s fragmented mainland coast. With both the Great Bear Rainforest and Pacific Ocean on our doorstep, the opportunities for wildlife viewing are plenty.

Our guests are often on the lookout for humpback whales, orca whales, sea lions, dolphins, black bears, grizzly bears and eagles. In September and October, salmon begin surging their way up the rivers, attracting bears who converge on the spawning channels to feast and prepare for the winter months ahead.  The rainforest ecosystem is at its peak this time of year, for both the salmon and the coastal wildlife that this keystone species sustains.

Bear Viewing

We frequently see wildlife on our Nimmo Bay adventures and day-trips, however, we do not guarantee sightings as their behaviour and whereabouts depends on various environmental factors.

Your Sky, Your Adventure

From sightseeng tours to alpine exploring to freshwater fishing, the exclusive use of a helicopter offers a variety of activity and adventure options. Amongst Nimmo Bay’s wilderness backyard you will find 10,000 year old glaciers, snow-capped mountain tops, old growth forests, white sand beaches, waterfalls, remote islands, and isolated rivers teeming with wild Pacific salmon. There are 50,000 square miles of extraordinary landscapes and breathtaking vistas just waiting to be explored! Activities may include alpine hiking, glacial lake paddle boarding, fishing, free diving, bike riding along a remote West Coast beach, and more.

As with all of our adventures, helicopter tours can be customized based on experience and interests. Our reservations team will be happy to help you plan an itinerary tailored for you and your group.

Have you seen our new, floating sauna?

Nestled amongst the wilderness, accessible by kayak or boat, discover where nurture meets nature.

Inside this Finnish-style, yellow cedar sanctuary, relax and listen to the crackle of the wood stove and take in the view of the bay through the large picture window. Refresh between sessions by taking a dip in the cool ocean water or just breathing in the fresh, wild air from the dock.

A new season is just around the corner and the wild is calling your name!
