Go ‘deep’ with Bottom Dwellers Freediving into the wild, underwater world surrounding Nimmo Bay and coastal British Columbia.
This exciting experience, for certified freedivers, will open the door to B.C.’s cold-temperate waters, some of the richest and most diverse on the planet. It is no wonder that the Pacific Northwest is a renowned diving destination and we invite you to explore it with us on this new adventure!
Nimmo Bay, Our World. Above … Below. No Limits
Dates: 3-days only! May 10 to 13, 2019
Where: Nimmo Bay is an intimate family-owned and operated resort located in the Great Bear Rainforest of B.C., on Canada’s rugged west coast. The remote location and tailored itineraries provide extraordinary wilderness and wildlife experiences.
Here, the cold, crisp waters of the Northern Pacific Ocean flood into Queen Charlotte Strait creating a deep-water upwelling and strong currents. These deep water inlets, paired with strong tidal currents, provide the oxygenation required to sustain an abundance of marine life.
This diverse ecosystem is home to sea anemones, tube worms, a variety of shellfish and soft corals, rockfish, lingcod and other fish species, giant Pacific octopus, an array of crab species (Dungeness, Red Rock, Puget Sound King), and large marine mammals (Steller sea lions, seals), and more!
Who: Guiding this trip will be Chris Adair, Owner/Operator of Bottom Dwellers Freediving, who has grown up in and around B.C. waters his whole life. It’s through charters, and the instruction of freediving and harvesting, that Chris is able to share his knowledge through his passion for this liquid environment.
Bottom Dwellers offers freediving instruction and charter spearfishing/freediving services based on Vancouver Island. Bottom Dwellers instructs PFI (Performance Freediving International) instructional system courses as well as their own freedive-harvesting and spearfishing courses (for certified freedivers) centred around ethical and sustainable harvesting in the local waters of the Pacific Northwest.
Guests will get to experience a variety of freedive-harvesting and underwater-hunting adventures:
- Shallow water (~33’/~10m) stacked boulder hole hunting for rockfish, lingcod and greenling
- Deep water (~66’/~20m) ledge and crack hunting for rockfish and lingcod
- Hand-harvesting in the intertidal zones and slightly deeper for crab, seaweeds, urchins and sea cucumber
- Freediving in Rockfish Conversation Areas
Discover the true beauty and wonder which the cold-waters of the Pacific Northwest have to hold…
